Why is it that so many people have such high hopes of losing weight and exercising but can never really stick with it for long enough for it to work. I believe there are many many reasons why one won't reach ones goals of losing the pounds they want but the biggest of them all is EXCUSES. These days life can be very overwhelming and busy and people just don't seem to take exercising seriously enough to fit it into their daily schedule. Here is the bottom line. We all understand that things do come up on a daily basis.....you need to work late, something came up with the kids, you got sick, or maybe you plain just need a day to rest. I am not talking about when you don't "feel" like working out but physically you just have had a really long day/week and need a break. Now, I would say out of the 4 scenarios I mentioned if you really comb through them, that will only give you approximately 5-7 days that something really important came up that you had to deal with and your workout got put to the side. So what about the other 23-25 days in that month that you did not workout. I will tell you......poor time managment and EXCUSES. If we are grown ups, we all have the ability to manage our time. I don't care if you are the most unorganized person in the world, you can still put together a simple schedule that says I need to do A, B, and C today. That leaves EXCUSES. Excuses are the biggest problem today and I will give you one example why I think this is true. How come everyone, no matter how tired or how agitated they are about going to work they are...still get up and go to work. The answer is simple.....b/c they have to in order to live. Now let me ask you this question. Don't we need exercise and good health in order to live. Don't you want to enjoy the later years in life when your kids are grown up, when you are retired? Think about that next time you are making up an EXCUSE of why you can't get up and just get up enough will power to do it. I know it can be hard but forget about what is ahead that you need to get done later on tonight, forget about how your boss or co-worker was being a "dick" ealier today, forget about how you are going to figure out this situation or that problem. Focus on the present and take one thing at a time. If that first thing is a workout, go do it and then move on to the next task. If I can tell you one thing about working out and 99% of people will agree with me on this....you never regret working out once you are done! Here is a small challenge for you. Try getting up and working out, TRULY COMMITTING, for one week. Don't think about exercising for 3 months or losing 30 lbs. Try exercising for 1 week, eating healthy and losing 2 lbs. This will not overwhelm you so much as to what is ahead. At the end of that 1 week. Let me know how you feel and then try another week if you feel good and like the results. Just keep it up and before you know it, you will be on your way.
